Biggest Disappointments of 2011 [Roundtable]

We’ve shown you all the things we’ve loved about the year 2011. Now it’s time to tell you all the things that disappointed us. We tried not to take the easy route this year by simply telling you we hate albums from bands we’re supposed to hate (we probably do), we didn’t want to just tell you a game sucks so we’re telling you why it was so bad (Duke Nukem…tsk tsk). We’ve taken on the role of a parent who isn’t mad, just disappointed. That makes it so much worse.

Q: With the advent of mobile gaming on smartphones and the popularity of home consoles (more so than 10 years ago), have today’s games become easier than games 5-10 years ago?  Even a new game such as Rage and its older checkpoint system is seen as overly antiquated and unnecessary (granted that maybe true).  Has game design been relegated to simply “get the player from start to finish” and with as much flash and as little obstacles as possible?

Warner Brothers has decided to lock down on-disc content in Batman: Arkham City with a DLC code. This essentially forces used game buyers to repurchase the DLC for $10 (which will make the used game cost about the same as new) if they want to access the Catwoman storyline. Do you think WB is crossing the line by being greedy or is this just a publisher protecting their own property?
