It’s that time again when suddenly Xbox live becomes much less offensive and much more dead. With students heading back to school, this is time for the annual back to school coverage of what you need to go back to school. We’ve added some gadgets that will likely help you with studies and then some other things that will definitely not help you with grades, but are a lot of fun.
Beats by Dre Headphones
MSRP: $199.95 - $399.95
While it may seem like these headphones are simply a gimmick by using the name Dr. Dre to buy a pair of headphones the sound coming from these headphones is amazing. While they are priced a little high they do produce a sound that is better than the average set of headphones. They also excel in comfort. While many headphones often feel hot or uncomfortable after extended use, these ones stay relatively cool and don’t feel overbearing. Great for commutes on transit or walking to classes.
Samsung Galaxy Note
MSRP: ~$199.99 (depends on your carrier)
This phone straddles the line between tablet and phone which allows you to get most of the functionality of both. The stylus that comes along with the phone can actually be used as a headset which is handy if you have the phone tucked into a pocket in your bag. The downside is the size of the phone but with all the extra features and the rumors that this phone will receive Jellybean in the next few months, it’s a great addition to school gadgets.
Google Nexus 7
MSRP: $200
This is likely the best 7 inch tablet on the market right now. Running almost as fast as the Asus Transformer Prime this little tablet packs quite a punch and the price tag is extremely low. With an almost 10 hour battery life it lasts quite a while for long reading sessions or other less scholarly uses. A tip for saving money on textbooks: look for the books on Project Gutenburg, they have all sorts of free books that are out of copyright.
Blue Microphones Tiki USB condenser microphone
MSRP: $59.99
A high quality recorder in a small package allows for easy recording of lectures or anything really. It could also help you break free from your boring school life and become a pop or rock star. It worked for Justin Beiber…
Canon Powershot ELPH 530 HS
MSRP: $329.99
This is the newest offering from Canon in its ELPH lineup. It’s a lightweight camera with a wide angle lens that shoots great photos. A good camera is an awesome addition to any back to school kit as it will allow you to capture all those priceless moments. It will also let you capture all those embarrassing moments that can be used for blackmail. Just saying…
Evernote Smart Moleskine
MSRP: $24.95
Moleskine has been the notebook of choice for writers for as long back as it’s been made. The strong outside allows it to be carried around easily without ripping or coming apart and the strong binding helps as well. This new Moleskine has paired with Evernote to make it easy to take a picture with your phone to make it digital. It also includes stickers to help you mark your spot to know where you need to scan. A great device for those who like taking notes by hand but want them saved somewhere searchable.
