What are some games that need a sequel or a remake desperately?

Adrian:

Two titles come to mind. The first is XIII. The game was an fps cell-shaded game with the player wrongly accused of assassinating the president. It was an awesome game that used the uncommon cell-shading presentation for the game. The game totally ends with the setup for a sequel but it never happened. Ubisoft did the original so I’m really hoping they make a sequel; even though it’s long overdue.

The second is Mirror’s Edge. That game received a lot of mixed reviews but the majority of critics and fans remained positive. The setting of the game was a near-future utopian society rife with corruption. The people who don’t want to live by these set rules are known as “runners” and literally, run from the law. What I loved about this game is the parkour elements mixed in with a first-person perspective. I would like to see a second one come out, heck even at E3, EA was hinting at a possibility of a sequel using the frostbite engine! I hope it’s only a matter of time.

Jeff:

XIII definitely needs a remake. I actually heard people talk about XIII on a few occasions at PAX this year. It was a great game and the cell-shading was really cool. I know Ubisoft is pretty dedicated to Assassins Creed right now (which I’m happy about) but a XIII sequel would be awesome.

Justin:

Oh I have a few on my list for this.

Adrian and Jeff have it right with XIII. That game is definitely one sequel I’d like to see (they left it waaaayyy too open to just end it there.)

Eternal Darkness has to be near the top of my list for sequels. Such an awesome and intuitive game but unfortunately Silicon Knights hasn’t mentioned anything about it being produced in the eight years since the original.

I know there is a trailer and gameplay footage of the sequel, but Beyond Good and Evil desperately needs some solid support. BG&E 2 has been slated for the next gen of consoles; however, I fear it may be stuck in development hell which would be all kinds of suck. Or since it’s Ubisoft as Jeff mentioned, Assassins Creed is taking center stage leaving little room for much else.

I’d like to see a Shadows of the Colossus sequel. Absolutely loved the first one but with Team Ico working on The Last Guardian and no plans that I’ve heard of to continue it, it’s probably more of hopeless fantasy.

Lastly, and probably least likely, is a sequel to a series that seems to have ended on the N64. I spent countless hours playing Bomberman 64 and its sequel, Bomberman 64: The Second Attack. I would kill for a sequel to them or at least for them to be downloadable or re-made on the 3DS.

On that note, when it comes to remakes, the only other one i can think of, is to see Majora’s Mask get the same treatment as Ocarina of Time on the 3DS.

Adrian:

I’m really hoping for a remake of Majora’s Mask on the 3DS too, but the one game I would love to see Nintendo remake for the 3DS is Donkey Kong Country from the SNES. I can’t remember how many times I played through that game and would love to experience that again.

Jeff:

I want to see a good sequel on the new systems for StarFox with only flying. I don’t need to get out of the plane, I just want to fly with Falco, Slippy and Peppy.  General Pepper can give orders and we’ll fight against Andross and his cronies. Awesome.

I would love to see a new Battletoads too. It can be just as difficult as the old ones but I want to see it with better graphics and a little more freedom.

Donkey Kong Country was epic and maybe another Donkey Konga too.

Ben:

Seeing that Secret of Mana is my all-time favorite, I would love to see that game remade. But I don’t want to see everything converted to 3D.  Leave it pseudo-3D with a 2D look and orchestrate the soundtrack.

With the decline of the gaming industry in Japan, developers like Square-Enix have definitely been feeling the hurt these last many years but they can seriously change that with… wait for it… a Final Fantasy VII remake!

Seriously, everyone has wanted SQENIX to do this for years and although I don’t have the kind of hardcore enthusiasm for this game that many others do, I’d definitely pick it up on day one.

Nintendo, give me a proper sequel to Super Mario RPG!  Since I’m still rambling on Square-Enix developed games, I would also like to ask for a Chrono Trigger remake as well, please.

Amos:

You know, I wasn’t a huge fan of XIII. Maybe it was because I actually didn’t love the cell-shaded look at the time. However, the game that I’m dying for a full remake is Final Fantasy Tactics. I’m a huge strategy RPG nut and FFT is certainly a classic. Sure the PSP got an updated version but I want a remake on the scale of Valkyria Chronicles (but with traditional SRPG gameplay.)

As for Final Fantasy VII, I have honestly yet to complete the game because I got into it around the Dreamcast era and the graphics were just so bad! I almost want that game to be remade into 8 bit graphics because that’s better than having a ball-handed Cloud!

Of course, this isn’t complete without the oft-promised Pikmin 3. Miyamoto has said that it’s coming and I thought the Wii would have been the perfect console for that amazing game (what with the motion control and all the flicking) but that hasn’t happened yet. Hopefully it gets released before the Wii is toast because I don’t want to have to buy a Wii-U just to play it.

Finally, a true successor to Battlefield 2 has been on my wish list since Battlefield 2142 and that’s finally being answered in the form of Battlefield 3. I’m hoping that the spirit of the original 64-player maps is retained and EA doesn’t hamper it all down with micro-transactions. I’m all for paying to play the game but let’s not make this into a $150 experience; we have The Old Republic for that!
