Sam & Max Season 3 Episode 3: They Stole Max's Brain Review [PC]

We start the latest episode with horrible news! During an ill timed-bathroom break Sam returns to find his little buddy Max has had his brain stolen! The search for this important appendage is what kicks off this latest episode in season three: The Devils Playhouse.

The loss of his little buddy sends Max into a rage that can only be demonstrated by an angry dog, or an angry detective. Since Sam is both he fits the role just right. This episode relies heavily on interrogation and the start of the story is quite linear. Done with a film noir storyline this is the grittiest of all the episodes(as gritty as a talking dog detective can be).

With the return of old villains, Sam is on a mission to get his little buddy his brain back at any cost. Even if he has to convince a rat to rat out his accomplices. The interrogation in this episode takes a little getting used to but once you get the hang of it, it’s a lot of fun. There is heavy dialogue in the first part of this episode which makes for an easy start and the quality of script for the characters makes it enjoyable.

This episode was so far the best of this season. Every character has great lines and it was linear which made the story easy to follow and fun. The episode is easier than the past two with Sam giving hints if things are going wrong but the story makes it a perfect addition to the season.
