Question of the Week: Will You Get a PS3 Slim?
Amos Ngai on
Monday, August 24, 2009 at 7:08AM Sony made the announcements everyone knew was coming at the German Games Convention this past week. As you heard on Across the Pond, GamerWok and TPSN didn't see eye to eye on the pricing structure. But we did agree Sony missed a knock-out opportunity by not being as aggressive as they could have. Popular opinion is that the PS3 was way too expensive before and now with the price drop, is it cheap enough?
The question this week is, will you, the consumer, be buying a PS3 slim? Is the magic $299 US price point good enough or are you waiting for Sony to throw in something more for the same $299? Or are you of the perceived minority that already owns a PS3 and have no need to buy another? Vote and leave a comment and fuel the discussion for next week's podcast!!

I think the price is right. The lack of backwards compatibility I don't understand at all. It is free for them to add. I guess they lose money in PS2s sales but that console needs to go away at some point.
i voted yes/no already got one... but if my existing one ever crapped out, i'm all over the new slim model! i bought mine off a day one buyer who only gouged me a hundred over retail, so even before the price drop, i thought the suggested retail price wasn't so bad! yeah... i'm one of THOSE suckers...
as for xboxguy's comment, my understanding was that the ps2 compatibility was the reason for the over-inflated day one price, was it not? and when they got rid of it in subsequent iterations didn't they drop the price a little? i might be wrong, but i know it's not 'free' for them to have it in the ps3...
Alright, I've got a bone to pick with Sony! Who the hell does Kaz Hirai think he is that he can just rip off my idea?!?? I'm the one that came up with the design of the world's best fat cutting (slimming as some would say) grill and he comes along and RIPSOFF my idea?? If I saw him at a bar, I will donkey punch the bastard! The PS3 SLIM has NOTHING on George Foreman!
lol @GeorgeForeman !!
Back to the topic though, I do agree that they missed a golden opportunity. They really dropped PS2 support ages ago during one of the patches (or does it just "feel" like "ages ago"?!)
I think what would kick some major ass by Sony, is the release of a PS-Engage or something...basically a stripped down PS3 that *only* connects to their online game service. No DVD/Blu-Ray.
