Geeky Friday 06.12.2009: Vinyl-ly InFAMOUS!

Geeky Friday Time!  Another week, another Geeky Friday post where the editors at GamerWok picks out some of the most essential Geek-tastic gear and sites that helps you on your path to geek-hood!  This week, we feature a perfect Fathers Day gift and how to score a cheap triple-A new release game for the price of a greatest hits title!

ION USB Turntable

Father's day is coming up and if your dad is anything like mine, they would have a ton of vinyl records that is just sitting there.  Most dads don't have a working record player anymore and I'm sure the majority would appreciate a way to enjoy those records while the go.  Short of recording them off of a microphone, there really wasn't any other way to get that vinyl sound into digital form...until now!ion1

What we have here is the ION USB Turntable.  The device is a fully functional turntable that can play regular vinyl records.  But the amazing thing about it is the USB output on the back of the device.  What you can do is hook up its USB output to a computer and rip those records into digital form!

The ION turntable ships with the free audio editing software, Audacity, but this is basically an analog to digital converter with vinyl interface so any audio recording software will work.  If your dad likes GarageBand, this will work just fine too.

Vinyl still sounds the best to the true audiophiles but why deprive your dad of the portability of the digital age?  Show him the way of the dragon with lossless compression and portable, digital, music with the ION Turntable for Fathers Day!  The ION USB Turntable is available now at ThinkGeek.com for only $99!  Can you even find a professional quality turntable for that much, let alone a USB one?

And with all ThinkGeek products that you purchase using the GamerWok link (http://gamerwok.com/think), you will receive some bonus geek point that are good towards the redemption of free stuff at ThinkGeek!  If you decide to buy the ION USB Turntable, you will receive 700 bonus geek points, good for future free stuff!

InFAMOUSly Cheap?

For our next Geeky Friday recommendation, it will be a bit of a money saving tip for the gamers out there.  InFAMOUS has just been released last week and is already receiving great reviews and is quickly becoming one of the best PS3 exclusives this year.  But with everyone tightening their purse strings, it might be hard to justify a $60 game when so many others are coming soon.infamous

Fear not, because GamerWok is here to tell you how you can save 50% off the cost of a retail copy of InFAMOUS by simply being at the right place, at the right time.  This is unfortunately limited to our Canadian readers but if you're in the US, you might be able to do an online order or a price match if a local store will oblige.bb-infamous

Starting June 30th and until July 2nd, BestBuy Canada will be selling InFAMOUS for $29.99!  This is an amazing price for an amazing game so make sure you mark it on your calendar and pick up a copy.  If you've been waiting for a reason to get InFAMOUS, this it.  You won't find a price like this unless it's used or goes to greatest hits catalogue.  Do yourself a favor, get it now.  Thanks to RedFlagDeals for sending along the news!
