Wok My World
- Disclaimer: benchmarks were researched and not actually completed by GamerWok (as I don't have $500 to spend on this machine!)
- Assumptions:
- PC has to run out of the box so OS is a must
- This will be connected to a TV/LCD which means HDMI video/audio is a must
- PC has to run games as fast/good as a PS3 if not better
- PC must play BD movies flawlessly
- Performance will be judged based on PS3 game resolution chart by Quaz found here at Beyond3D
- Frames per second isn't recorded in PS3 benchmarks but we will assume that PC games has to run between 35-45 FPS to look as good as PS3
- We will be using Canadian price of $499.99 for the PS3 and not the US price of $499.99
- All parts will be purchased from one store to save on shipping and simplicity
- Full Build: http://bit.ly/PS3PC
- Final Price at time of recording: $556 CDN
- PC/PS3 pros and cons
- Bottom line: It's possible with a bit of leg work to get the price down
- You can shave the cost of OS down by getting the Windows 7 RC that's free from Microsoft until March 2010

I have to ask, does it play Crysis?
Considering Crysis is a piece of badly coded software released for sole purpose of bringing systems to its knees...not well. The 3850 will run Crysis at 17 FPS in 1280 X 1024, which isn't very playable. But if you were to fork over another $40 or so, the 4770 can run Crysis very respectably. But the caveat is that this machine is supposed to match the performance of a PS3, which it does but the downside is that it's not a very powerful PC gaming machine.
