Battlefield 1943 Storms Beaches Soon

airshot3EA Announced yesterday on their website (http://www.battlefield1943.com/) that the hotly anticipated title, Battlefield 1943 will be available to Xbox 360 and PS3 owners in "June".  No specific launch date was given but the PC version will not be released until "September".

Battlefield 1943 is an all-new multiplayer game that offers endless hours of 24-player action in popular maps inspired by Battlefield 1942™, now updated with the Frostbite™ engine. The total destructibility afforded by the Frostbite engine ups the ante and leaves players with nowhere to hide.

Frostbite was first developed for use in Battlefield: Bad Company, and it certainly makes the 2002 game look up to today's standards.  You can see the trailer on the Battlefield 1943 website but the vehicles and character models looks exactly like what you would expect Battlefield: Bad Company to look like after being skinned with a 1942 style.

vista3Having been a huge player of BF1942 and BF2 back in the day, I'm very excited to see how the game play will be translated to the consoles.  With only 24 players (the PC traditionally supported up to 64 players), it will be a challenge to keep up the intensity.  Although if EA has learned anything from BF2, then scalability of maps shouldn't be a problem and fire fights should lend the same frantic feeling it did on the PC.

No word yet from EA when Battlefield Heroes, its free to play shooter, will be announced.  But you can expect to pay $15USD on the PSN or 1200 MS Points for Battlefield 1943 when it's available in June.  For PC owners, this might not be a recommended purchase since you can still find BF2 for less than $10 these days and servers are still highly populated.
