Question of the Week: How Often Do You Upgrade Your PC?

With the constant changing technologies on the computers front, it's not easy to remain on the bleeding edge of computers.  Especially if you're into high end gaming and demand the most from your machines.  So then, if you're a Do It Yourself type and will stop at nothing for that last frame per second, then this question is for you.

mac-upgrade

Well, the options on the poll are a little limited...I used to do the whole incremental upgrade thing (new processor here, new video card there)....then I stopped all that. Nowadays I upgrade when I feel it's worth doing so (e.g. new generation of cpus etc...e.g. DualCore processors with new fast DDR2 ram, etc)...so around 2-3 years would be a good number....on that note...just order parts for a new pc :-)

Let me change up that one answer to 1 year or more :)

when something breaks

generally only use my computer for trolling the internets, pirating music and watching porn (c'mon, lets be honest here....)

i 'm primarily a console gamer so i don't really have the urge to upgrade my pc at all... although with diablo and starcraft on the horizon, i'll probably be shelling out some cash to run those...

haha! Well said, but with regards to Blizzard games, if you can run WoW at acceptable frame rates now, you should be fine to run SC2 on normal. D3 might be another story...

Drat..poll's closed.

Everything I'm developing / targeting is for the medium range of hardware, so I got off the hardware early adoption grind a few years ago. :)

As long as my machine is capable of the weekly run into Obsidium Sanctum, then it's all good baby.

That's totally my point of view these days. Especially since chasing GHz no longer really matter. Sort of why I finally decided to jump to the Mac side of things since hardware specs no longer play that much into my decision factor. Time and effort seems to be my priority.

Also, with most things we do being on the web, hardware specs and platform is moot.
