Holiday Guide to the Galaxy 2009 [Ms. Geek]

Written By: Emrys, Anthony Barlow, and Amos Ngai

Being a geek is no longer restricted to the male of our species.  There are definitely some of you out there that has a person of the fairer sex on your shopping list this season with a more techy feel for things.  This then, is the guide for you!  GamerWok is here once again with another Holiday Shopper's Guide, this time with a focus on the ladies of technology and all around geeky stuff.  Check it out men, because this is as close to a road map as you'll ever get!

  1. Amazon Kindle
    kindle2
This little ebook reader single handedly made ebooks relevant.  And until recently, it was limited to the US only.  But since a few months back, Amazon has thought it wise it to release to a few other countries as well.  The Kindle is not the most perfect ebook reader but it is the one that's backed by the most selection in books and is also the only one to have the Amazon online store behind it.  Perfect for the busy gal that loves a good read but is tired of carrying something that screams 1890!

    (MSRP $259.99 USD, Amazon.com)

  3. True Blood Season 1 DVD Box Set
    tv_true_blood01

Based on the Suzy Stackhouse series of books, True Blood tells the tale of a world where Vampires have "come out" and are living amongst humans because they are no longer dependent on blood (with the help of synthetic blood).  Vampires and a hot viking, what's not there for a girl to love?

    (MSRP $54.99 CDN, Amazon.ca)

  4.

  5. d20 Spiral Necklace

    d20_necklace
When's the last time you found yourself walking down the street and running into a pick-up D&D game only to be without a die?  Have no fear, the d20 necklace is here!  This is the most functional and fetching piece of accessory you could ever get for the gal that has everything.  The die colors are assorted and ThinkGeek will do the choosing for you.  Great budget gift that will be truly unique.

    (MSRP $9.99 USD, ThinkGeek.com)

  6.

  7. Lady GaGa's Heartbeats Headphones by Monster

    gaga-beats
Following the success of the brilliant Beats by Dre , cable manufacturer Monster have recruited another musical celeb and given them their own range of high quality headphones.  Lady GaGa might not be the biggest of musical names, but her madcap antics and catchy tunes have certainly captured audiences worldwide and Monster have capitalized on that.  The HeartBeats in-ear headphones have a compact, modern design and come in either Rose Red, Bright Chrome or Black Chrome colour styles. The flat Monster cables guarantee a quality signal and are said to be tangle restistant, something which will help if your missus is always on the go. Also, for all those iPhone owners out there, there are versions available with Monster’s ‘ControlTalk’ feature allowing you to use the phone’s hands-free feature.

If Ms. Geek wants a great set of ‘phones that aren’t your typical run of the mill deal then these would be perfect. That is, if they don’t detest their designer. I think that’s something that can be looked past though. Don’t you?

    (MSRP $119.99 CDN, Amazon.ca)

  8. Nike+ iPod/iPhone integration Kit

    nikeplus

For the active ladies out there that loves a good run but wants a more elegant solution to help track her progress, the Nike+ iPod Kit is a must have.  This little pod simply inserts into a Nike + shoe, or clips on to another branded shoe via a third party accessory if Nike isn't your brand of choice, and connects silently to a compatible iPod.  What the pod does is track your progress, measures your distance, speed, and efficiency.  It also stores your data and syncs via iTunes to the Nike online service, where you can then hook up to Facebook or Twitter and share your excercise progress with all your friends.  With custom soundtracks based on your moods and the ability to select a "power song" to help you through that last home stretch, it's the perfect running tool that has geek written all over it.  It can interface wirelessly with iPhone 3GS, iPod Touch, and iPod Nanos with an optional attachment.  Being a geek doesn't mean you have to sit on your butt all day so get out there and move!

(MSRP $39 CDN for the Kit, $25 CDN for sensor only, Apple.ca)
