MacRumors Hijacked by 4Chan

macrumors2During the MacWorld keynote that was highly anticipated by Apple fans this week, many online publications were doing livestream blogs to cover the event.  Livestream blogging is where a page continually refreshes with content you post in a similar fashion to how Facebook offers up a stream.  But during the stream, someone gained access to the site's admin tools and hijacked the feed.

It started with people posting irrelevant information from gay jokes to Steve jobs is dead comments.  Finally after the fun ended, they simply redirected the stream to obscene pictures. Techcrunch has some screen shots.  Shortly after the Keynote was complete, the stream defaulted back to a 404 Error and completely died.  The sad truth is that the Internet is a scary place.  A site such as MacRumors has been long held in high regards for their discerning taste in rumor reports.  What Arnold Kim usually posts on the site are believable, and nothing like the MacBook Wheel types of stories.

It's not easy to operate your own site and are excited to do something great for the benefit of your readers but only to have it smacked away by immature children that are seeking attention.  Sorry Arnold, it's too bad this happened but look on the bright side, you gained 3700 new followers in two days on Twitter because of it!
