How Much Speed Do You Need in a Netbook?

Not fast enough Nvidia! Not fast enough Nvidia!

Nvidia announced this week that they have plans to release the "Ion" platform to be used primarily for netbooks.  They are capitalizing on their successful launch of the 9400M chipset with the new Macbooks and have decided that their IGP would be well suited for the Netbook segment.  Although this isn't a surprise and seems to make good sense for both consumer and developer, I'm not convinced it's a smart move.  Ignoring all the current graphical issues the new Macbooks (I should really call them Macbooks - they have been out for 2 months) are experiencing by way of "black screen of death", flicker issues, and heat problems.  I think the more serious concerns for integrating a 9400M GPU into a Netbook would be power consumption and the fact that Nvidia still won't come clean about their GPU production issues.
