2700 years ago, this would have been medicine!I normally don't focus on purely non-tech related issues at GamerWok but this little bit of news peeked my attention. Firstly because it was anthropological in nature, and secondly, it was about "The Pot"! It was too comical to resist posting about it. As it turns out, earlier this week, The Canadian Press reported that a grave of a 2,700 year old Gushi shaman was found in northwestern China. What's important is not the anthropological significance of this find but the 789 grams of dried "cannabis" that was found in a basket next to him. This is the oldest known find of the marijuana and at almost a kilogram, this is one hot stash! No instruments were found so the researchers couldn't determine how the weed was used but they were certain it was used as a "pharmacologically active agent" - in layman's terms, To Get High. After further testing, the specimen was found to contain a high level of THC, which is the active ingredient in the plant giving it its psycho-active properties. Not only was this weed old but it was from a good source too!
