You have been terminated!DailyTech reports that the popular Antivirus program for Windows, AVG, is having some serious issues with their latest definitions. What seems like a harmless update will in fact launch your AVG into full on Terminator mode. So how, AVG thinks that "user32.dll" is a container for a few Trojan viruses and will proceed to delete it. Being that "user32.dll" is a bloody system critical file won't even phase it. This program is just THAT dedicated to your security. According to DailyTech, there are over 80 million users worldwide that are using AVG (free or not) so this isn't just a little oops. My parent's home computer currently runs AVG but it's a good thing that they rarely use it. Which is another reason that I'm considering upgrading them to an iMac this next round. The less options and the easier to use a computer is, the better it is for them. The good news is that AVG has since patched the software and advise you to stop scanning your computer until you have the updated files. If you've already scanned and your dll was removed, then you most likely won't be reading this. But if by chance you had a backup PC, you can boot back into windows with a few bootable solutions and restore your files from the dll cache. You can find more details at DailyTech. This is sort of why I'm glad I have a Mac to back up my windows machines.
UPDATE: Looks like AVG is offering a free one year subscription to their "affected" subscribers for wiping out their systems. Sure, that keeps me from jumping ship but really, do you want to risk it the second time this happens?
