The Devil You KnowTG Daily reported yesterday that users of the new MacBook and MacBook Pros manufactured with Apple's new "brick" process are experiencing defects in its construction. There have been instances of users who claim that the battery compartment on their Mac's are loose and creates a space between the front and back of the panel. It's been said that this occurs usually after you remove the battery cover and try and put it back on. Reports are scarce and have been mainly posted on rumor sites and forums but Apple is remaining quiet on the subject. Apple is replacing/repairing the affected Mac's on an individual basis but if you had custom ordered your Mac, there's nothing but repair for you. Build to order Macs are not eligible for refunds/exchanges and can only be sent out for repair.
Here's my prediction. Apple's first generation products haven't always been great. Especially now that manufacturing is done in China. QC over there is certainly lacking and the culture thrives on bribes and turned eyes so it's not surprising that there will be gaps in production quality. I believe that there will be more problems with the new line of MacBook/Pros in the coming months. What people failed to see or chose to ignore, is that the current line of machines have brand new everything, only the CPU remained the same. Ram is new, chipset architecture is new, and the manufacturing process is new. I wouldn't be so worried about the 8600M GT failing on the last gen MacBook Pros as this new, untested, chipset failing or having other issues.
Although others have undoubtedly bought into the glam and glitz of the new MacBooks, I chose to pick up a last gen MBP instead. At the very least, I would be dealing with issues I know about. Better the Devil you know...
